Wisconsin Counties Association supports research efforts guided by citizen concerns in preparation for second round of Town Hall meetings starting June 24
More than 5,000 state residents have weighed in on an effort to improve the fairness of Wisconsin's tax system while preserving the quality of public services.
Now, the Wisconsin Way leaders are working with a nonpartisan team of budget experts, policy advisers, economic development leaders, academics and financial industry members to turn the public's priorities into a workable blueprint for the state.
"The public comments we've received point to the need for research into solutions that focus on strong economic development; credible, effective local government; and short-term revenue streams and immediate actions," said Mark D. O'Connell. "In our second round of meetings, we will be sharing preliminary research findings with the public and providing a series of policy choices that we believe will help put Wisconsin back on the right track."
The second round of Wisconsin Way public forums will kick off June 24 in Eau Claire and conclude August 19 in Madison. Additional forums locations and dates include: |

From NACO's County News Feature, "News from the Nation's Counties:
One school in Oneida County is making sure its students know what counties are and what they do. Nativity School in Rhinelander recently held its second annual County Fair. But this fair had nothing to do with prize-winning hogs or deep-fried Twinkies.
Each of the school's fourth graders was required to research a different county in Wisconsin, and make a float and brochure representing their county, WJFW-TV reported. Ann Zemski, a fourth grade teacher at Nativity, said, "They have learned an incredible amount about our beautiful state of Wisconsin and I'm very, very pleased with the outcome."
The state has 72 counties.
