We don't have the space to list them all, but who doesn't chuckle thinking about past April Fool's Day hoaxes like Burger King unveiling the "Left Handed Whopper," or Taco Bell announcing they had bought the Liberty Bell and renamed it "The Taco Liberty Bell."

us flagToday is the spring election and an important day for Wisconsin's 72 counties, as county officials are up for re-election.  From a contentious Supreme Court race to local county board seats to board downsizing, there are many reasons you need to get to the polls and vote!

In order for WCA to update our database properly, we are requesting you please submit the results of today's county elections as soon as possible.  The information should include: name, address, home/office/fax numbers, email address and district number.  Most importantly, please indicate who the new supervisors are replacing.

Also, in preparation for the upcoming Wisconsin Counties magazine article, please indicate how many contested races there were in your county.  Do not include in this count any races contested by a write-in candidate unless the write-in candidate won.

Please email or fax this information as soon as possible following the election to:

On Monday, March 31, 2008, Governor Jim Doyle was joined by local leaders and community members as he launched his new program for Energy Independent Communities.

"We are heading toward energy policies that will clean our air and water, create jobs and save us money," Governor Doyle said. "The course we are taking will help free us from big oil and make our country a safer place. I am looking forward to having these communities join as partners and adopt the state's energy goals."

On Thursday, March 27, Governor Doyle signed Assembly Bill 77 (AB 77), which adjusts the procedure for distributing the school levy credit and lottery and gaming property tax credits.

Under current law these credits are sent to the municipalities, who then pass the monies down to the counties.  Under AB 77, the state will send these funds directly to the counties.  This legislation was supported by WCA and the Wisconsin County Treasurers Association.
