Wisconsin county officials voted this week to encourage the legislature to act on key county issues in the state budget before counties are left with no choice but to raise property taxes to meet funding shortfalls from the state.
At the WCA Annual Conference in Wisconsin Dells on Monday, 69 of 72 counties (three were not present) signed a declaration urging the legislature to take action on three critical county issues to achieve real property tax relief and maintain the level of quality services the taxpayers of Wisconsin currently receive.
"Counties are at a critical juncture right now and are facing severe funding shortfalls," said WCA President and Jackson County Board Chair Steve Dickinsen. "Without state funding for vital programs, counties will be left with little choice but to raise property taxes or cut services to the citizens of our state. This isn't about passing a budget for the sake of passing a budget, but rather, adopting a document which is fiscally responsible for Wisconsin residents." Full Story... |
