The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ran an editorial yesterday on The Wisconsin Way titled, "A Debate We Must Have." The article was the result of an editorial board visit by WCA and member groups of The Wisconsin Way.
The article began, "If you think the budget discussions in Madison are difficult this year, flash-forward to 2030: Vexed by the unprecedented challenge of an aged population, deteriorating roads and sewers, years of lackluster economic growth and an outdated tax system, the state can no longer pay its bills."

The Wisconsin Emergency Management Association (WEMA) will hold its annual conference in Madison on October 31, 2007, with pre-conference training being held Monday and Tuesday, October 29-30th.
This year's conference theme is "Evacuation" and will focus on the many challenges communities face for evacuation planning in light of disaster.

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S.D.A. Forest Service, and Natural Resources Conservation Service announce the third year of funding for The Great Lakes Watershed Restoration Grant Program.
The Program provides grants to community organizations, state and local governments and others working at the local level to protect and improve watersheds in the Great Lakes. The purpose of the program is to support habitat restoration, water quality improvement, watershed planning and management, and applied research. Projects that include education, training or community outreach are encouraged.

NACo, in partnership with the state associations of counties, has launched the 2008 Presidential Election Project to reach candidates seeking to become President in 2008 and get them to focus on county issues. The goal of the project, which is a non-partisan effort, is to restore the federal-county government partnership and to educate all of the candidates on county issues. |
