A recent statewide poll of registered voters in Wisconsin reveals overwhelming opposition to a legislative proposal to reduce the number of counties in the state from 72 to 18. Of those polled, 80 percent said they would encourage their legislators to vote against the plan spearheaded by Representatives Sheldon Wasserman and Frank Lasee.
"I think the citizens are telling policy makers that the number of counties should not be reduced to an arbitrary number without taking a comprehensive look at what counties are doing in our communities both today and in the future," said WCA Executive Director Mark D. O'Connell.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice is hosting a series of free seminars throughout the state on the public records and open meetings law. At each seminar, Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen will be accompanied by assistant attorneys general who specialize in open meetings and public records law. While the seminars are free, registration is required by email, registration@doj.state.wi.us; or by phone at (608) 267-2220.
The purpose of the seminars is to provide instruction on the public records and open meetings laws, helping public officials and employees navigate their way through the law and inform the public of their rights under the law.

The 2007 Wisconsin Emergency Management Association (WEMA) Annual Conference will be held October 29-31, 2007, at the Sheraton-Madison. This year's Conference is titled, "Evacuation," and addresses all aspects of evacuation for all types of agencies, governments, schools, special needs facilities, businesses, etc.
