 Each year, between $400 million and $500 million comes out of county budgets nationally as a result of the federal government's suspending health benefits for county jail inmates, according to Ron Wiborg, Hennepin County Corrections Department.
To combat this long-standing problem, NACo's Large Urban County Caucus (LUCC) has begun to circulate a draft resolution that calls for Congress to amend necessary federal rules so that county governments aren't stuck with the bill for the inmates' care. For more information, click here. |

As geographic information systems and other location based technologies become more important in our everyday lives, there is a growing need and demand for improved coordination of geographic data and services in Wisconsin.
Through a joint effort led by the Wisconsin Land Information Association (WLIA), a Wisconsin Statewide GIS Strategic Plan was created and published earlier this year. The number one goal identified in this plan is the creation of a statewide geographic information coordination body, the Wisconsin Geographic Information Coordination Council.
