A few weeks back, WCA Legislative Director Craig Thompson posted a video message on WCA eNews encouraging counties to contact our federal delegation regarding the impact of proposed child support funding reductions. 

Thanks to all counties who sent these numbers to our delegation regarding child support cuts.  Last week, a U.S. Senate bill to restore the child support cuts was introduced by Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), with Senator Herb Kohl as bill co-sponsor of S. 803. 

We commend Senator Kohl for advocating on behalf of counties on this issue and stay tuned to WCA eNews for updates on this critical piece of legislation.  The fight is not yet over and we need all your help to let the county voice be heard.

If your county spends more than $100 million per year to purchase goods and services, you will be required to start withholding 3 percent of nearly every transaction in lieu of the vendor's estimated taxes, thanks to Section 511 of the Tax Increase Prevention and Reconciliation Act.  To read the full NACo article on this topic, click here.
